Goodbye, until we meet again!
The Ski Club of New Jersey roasted and feted long‐time member, Bob K. with a hearty farewell at the Club’s Christmas Party (Dec 10), at the Maywood Inn (Twin Door Tavern). Bob moves to Asheville, NC to be closer to his son, Edward.
The farewell started after the door prizes were raffled off ‐ and believe it or not, Bob even won a free day of skiing at Belleayre Mountain! First surprise was the unexpected arrival of his son, Bill, who had driven up from Charlottesville, VA for the occasion. For once, Bob was momentarily speechless! (visit our Facebook page to see the video Bill shot of the occasion).
Next was a roasting of Bob’s past in the club. He was reminded of the highlights ‐ and some low lights ‐of his 75 years!
Finally there was a slide presentation, which Bob extemporaneously narrated (because no one could remember that farback!), so club members could keep up with past events and relate to the folks who had come and gone! Very well done.
For a really nice finishing touch, Bob turned the tables on the club by presenting a picture painted by a past member in 1972 of the Maroon Belles in Aspen. This beautiful picture will be hung in the lodge.
Bob and the aforementioned speakers are just some of the longtime members of the club (not to be forgotten: Bob M.), and they are people who have done great planning and stewardship and therefore have secured a great legacy for the Ski Club of New Jersey. Without people like Bob K, and Bob M. clubs like The Ski Club of New Jersey simply wouldn’tbe possible, and the sport of skiing would be the lesser for that.
Sadly, and fondly, we say goodbye to Bob with great memories and certain we’ll see each other again.
(the Ski Club respects the privacy of its members and currently with holds publishing last names).
