The Ski Club of New Jersey participated in the NJSSC adult races at Pico on February 6, 2016. And our young skiers continue to race at various resorts in the metro area; our club’s young racer Jane McKinley also recently placed at Mt. Peter. Race practice continues at Mt. Creek every Monday (learn more on our racing page) with races each following Wednesday.

The NJSSC Stanley Sharaga is coming up, and our racers will be participating

• The annual Stanley Sharaga Memorial President’s Race is held each year. The race honors the memory of a Stanley Sharaga, a past President of the New Jersey Ski & Snowboard Council.
• Date – Saturday March 19, 2016 at Hunter Mountain, New York.

We are well into the midpoint of the 2015-16 ski season and many 2016 Council Days, featuring steep discounts at participating resorts, remain available by using the Ski Club of New Jersey membership card. 

The card has a bar code which participating resorts process in order to print a steeply discounted ski ticket.

The Ski Club of New Jersey’s annual “Ladies Week,” organized by member Sonja Denzau enjoyed great attendance (at least 25 women participated) and the Lodge was a bustle of comings and goings as women arrived and departed throughout the week. Standard fare is an evening of delicious soup and salad accompanied by various appetizers and deserts which each lady brings. Wednesday night is traditionally spent at the Mountain Top Lodge and Resort and this year’s Wednesday was no different! There wasn’t a lot of snow, but snowmaking at Killington and Okemo was in full swing, and conditions were very good, although later Thursday blew in the anticipated polar vortex sending temperatures to the low teens and below. Brrrrr!

It’s our Annual SCNJ Family Picnic! Beer, Wine, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Fun, Games Galore, Best Ribs Contest! 1pm -6pm Bring the whole Family!

The Ski Club of New Jersey racers reclaimed the ‘Little Brown Jug’ on Saturday at the 3-club race (SCNJ, Monmouth,Telemark), held at Middlebury Snow Bowl, with an unprecedented 26 second lead over number two finisher Monmouth. The trophy is back in its case at our lodge, where it rightfully belongs! There were 102 racers, the largest group ever. SCNJ won in all categories – juniors, women, men and of course, combined. Jonathan Blumers, a freshman at RPI, had the fastest time of the race! All our members did well, and we congratulate them for their achievement. SCNJ was the host club this year for the 3-club apres ski party. About 110 folks were at the lodge to celebrate. Again it would not have been possible without the effortand work of so many of our members. A big thanks to all!! Wait till next year!!! Mark Conlan – Hank Willen
